5 Foods That Help You Lose Weight
Some foods have the ability to actually assist with our weight loss efforts. This article will reveal five of the best foods for achieving your weight loss goals. As always, these foods should be consumed in moderation and as part of a healthy, balanced diet with adequate vitamins and minerals.
1) Grapefruit
There is such a thing as the grapefruit diet. Maybe you've heard of it? Researchers have now found proof that this diet in fact works. In a 2004 study that investigated the effect of grapefruit on weight loss, researchers found that eating half a grapefruit half an hour before a meal results in the individual eating less at meal times. The reason for this isn't completely understood, but does that reall matter? It works - that's all we care about.
2) Green tea
Admittedly, not a food but still worthy of inclusion in this list. Green tea has been found by researchers to significantly increase the calories a body burns in the 24 hours after drinking it. Green tea is capable of boosting the metabolism which helps the body to burn up calories and, of course, lose weight. One study on the weight loss effects of green tea showed that over a period of three months, subjects who were moderately obese lost 4.6% of their body weight, and achieved a 4.48% reduction in waist size as well.
3) Pumpkin
Perhaps one of the most underrated foods, pumpkin. Used mainly as a symbol of Halloween and Thanksgiving, pumpkin is also one of the worlds greatest weight loss foods. Canned pumpkin contains only 40 calories and is packed full of fibre (highly important for weight loss).
4) Grapes
Grapes are a highly tasty, sweet fruit that should be used as a substitute for the unhealthy snacks you may otherwise consume. 100 grams of grapes contains just 70 calories. As well as the low calrie content, grapes are a fantastic fruit for cleansing the system and detoxing the body which aids weight loss. TIP: I'm no chef but one way to really get the most from your grapes (taste wise) is to freeze them. Sounds crazy, but on a warm Summer's day it is absolute bliss.
5) Apples
Another miracle fruit to be included in this list. Apples contain pectin which is a soluble fibre. Pectin breaks down slowly which helps you to feel fuller for longer. A study performed in 1999 revealed that only 5 grams of pectin is enough to help you to feel full for up to four hours. 5 grams of pectin can be obtained from just three small apples.
