The general consensus of opinion regarding weight loss is that if we want to lose fat especially around the stomach and the hips then all that is required is switching to a low fat or fat free diet but in actual fact you can get and keep visible six pack abdominals even if you have moderate to high levels of fat in your diet this is assuming of course that these levels of fat are what is known as 'good fats' as opposed to the 'bad fats' such as trans fats or hydrogenated fats.
Good fats are the ones that are natural and have not been processed or damaged by heat, refining or other man made interference such as partial hydrogenation. Some examples of foods containing good fats are fish, nuts, avocados, seeds and surprisingly fresh butter.
Probably the worst of the 'bad' fats are margarine, biscuits, cakes, pastry and the fats found in anything that is fried in addition if you ever come across the words 'partially hydrogenated' on any nutritional label it would be better to avoid the product completely. Refined vegetable oil is also considered to be a 'bad' fat as these oils are heavily processed with high heat which removes all the healthy nutrients and goodness.
These 'good fats' are a fantastic nutrient in terms of a calorie rich energy source although it is important for those that use medium to high fat diets to strictly control their carbohydrate intake accordingly as the danger is that high levels of carbohydrate coupled with high fat levels will inevitably lead to an increase in stored body fat.
Using a medium to high fat diet for your primary energy source is fine but you must understand it should be used instead of carbohydrates and not alongside them in other words it is a case of choosing one or the other but you cannot have both.
In terms of physique and getting rid of hard to shift body fat around the stomach region many people have had great success following a high fat and low carbohydrate diet and then complimenting this further by keeping their protein intake high by looking to consume 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight so while it may come as a shock to some that elusive washboard stomach can be yours even with a high fat diet.
